DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: A very light trade started up on Tuesday 
last week, but the bulk of business took place on Wednesday 
with just a few scattered deals reported on Thursday and 
Friday. Southern live business was marked at $122 to $124, 
mostly $123 to $124, generally steady with last week's 
weighted averages. Northern dressed trade had a large range 
of $191 to $198, mostly $196 to $198, $1 to $3 lower than 
last week's weighted average basis Nebraska. According to 
Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Summary reports the 
accumulated weekly average price totals are as follows (the 
prior week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses): KS 
$123.71($123.29); NE $196.35($198.87); TX $123.86($123.97); 
IA $196.68($198.18); CO not available due to confidentiality.

According to the Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter 
Cattle reports weekly trade volume totals were as follows: KS 
9,058; NE 27,002; TX 4,145; IA 13,448, CO not available due 
to confidentiality. Friday's slaughter totaled 110,000 head, 
8,000 less than the prior week and 3,000 below a year ago. 
Saturday's kill was estimated at 54,000 head, bringing the 
weekly total to 641,000 head, 16,000 under the previous week, 
and down 14,000 from 2020. 

The weekly averages for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef 
cuts were choice $308.75 -11.47, select $276.76 -8.58, with 
an average choice select spread of $31.99, and a total load 
count (cuts, trimmings, grinds) of 704. 

DTN MORNING COMMENTS: A typically quiet Monday morning with 
both buyers and sellers busy taking inventory. Bids and asking 
prices are not established as of yet. Significant trade volume 
will likely be delayed until Wednesday or later. Beef cutouts 
are expected to be lower with generally light box movement.

For the week ending September 18, 2021, Imported Beef Passed 
for Entry in the U.S. totaled 45,141, 116.76% of the previous 
week and 100.64% of the 4-week average.
