Soybean fields filled with volunteer corn like this one near Elkhart, Iowa, aren't uncommon in the Midwest where the 2020 derecho plowed through. The derecho's hurricane-like winds caused excessive corn lodging and ear and kernel loss, which led to more instances of volunteer corn this year. (DTN photo by Matthew Wilde)

USDA's Regional Conservation Partnership Program provides grants to projects that bring together multiple groups in a particular area to focus on increased conservation practices. USDA on Friday announced 15 grant projects, including one in South Dakota to demonstrate carbon sequestration potential for corn production that goes to produce ethanol.

Thursday, September 23, 2021 5:35PM CDT
Agricultural groups started sending around top-line numbers for the $28 billion that will go into conservation programs as part of the $3.5 trillion Build Back Better plan. The money would go for conservation measures that address climate change, such as mitigating greenhouse-gas emissions.
